A STORY OF LOVE

My name is Alexandra, or Alex! I’ve been married for 17 years and have two lovely sons. I’m from Brazil, but I’ve been living in Manchester for the last 9 years.

I grew up observing my grandma making the yummiest sweeties, cakes and desserts. Every single dessert that she made was full of love, perfection and affection, and my passion for cakes came from her and from the fact that I LOVE eating cakes.

When the time came for me to choose what career to follow, I chose to be a nutritionist, since, in my thoughts, it was the profession which I could be closest to the kitchen and, at that time, there wasn’t a Gastronomy course in my city. After a few years I attained my degree in nutrition from Universidade do Vale dos Sinos, in São Leopoldo, Brazil. After ending school, I completed a Professional Chef course in Porto Alegre, Brazil. I worked as nutritionist for about 10 years in the same company, Brubins, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Brubins was a frozen ready meal factory and also a Cafe Bistro.

When I moved to England I became a full time housewife, and on my kids birthday parties I began to bake cakes and cupcakes for them take to school’s events. Friends quickly began to ask me to make cakes for them too and it didn’t take much time for friends of friends to start asking as well.

I completed a Cake Decorating course on Bolton College to improve my skills, and I’m currently attending the ABC Cake Decorating course at Manchester College. Opening Alex’s Bakery is a dream coming true! I have finally found my passion and every single cake or cupcake that I make, I make with such pleasure and love, that I couldn’t even call it a job.
